Following the success of last year’s clean cooking awareness efforts in Mbale, the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC), in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Platform (NREP) and other key stakeholders, is set to return for another week-long e-Cooking awareness campaign at Mbale Central Market from February 10th to 14th, 2025. This initiative is part of the ongoing Behavior Change Communication for e-Cooking (BCCeC) project, implemented by NREP with support from UKAid, Modern Clean Cooking Services (MECS), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

The previous campaign, held in December 2024, saw UNACC engage the Mbale community through exhibitions, stakeholder dialogues, and a live radio talk show on Open Gate FM 103.2 Mbale. During the talk show, Sarah Babirye, and Michael Kiza from UNDP highlighted the benefits of transitioning to clean cooking technologies, focusing on their health, economic, and environmental advantages. The campaign also extended beyond Mbale, with UNACC representatives visiting Kumi District, where they explored a briquette production facility that converts agricultural waste into carbonized briquettes.

Building on this momentum, the upcoming e-Cooking awareness campaign will put even greater emphasis on electric cooking solutions as a sustainable alternative to traditional biomass fuels. The team will conduct live cooking demonstrations, stakeholder engagements, radio talkshows, and community dialogues to address common barriers to adoption and encourage more households and businesses in Mbale to transition to modern cooking technologies.

With the continued support of UKAid, MECS, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, this campaign aims to transform perceptions around e-Cooking by providing practical knowledge, firsthand experiences, and expert guidance. By increasing awareness and accessibility, UNACC and NREP are working to make clean cooking a reality for every Ugandan household, ensuring a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
