Promotion of Clean Cooking Solutions
Supported by United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)
Background
This FAO-led project, implemented by UNACC with funding support from the European Union, is designed to accelerate the adoption of clean cooking solutions and reduce reliance on wood biomass.
The campaign includes market activation drives, exhibitions, and capacity-building workshops across Uganda, with a focus on key regions including Kampala, Jinja, Hoima, and Mbale.
It highlights modern, energy-efficient cooking technologies such as improved biomass stoves, electric pressure cookers, ethanol stoves, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) etc., promoting sustainable cooking practices nationwide.
Project Activities
1. Regional Awareness Campaigns
The project concluded successfully, having executed a series of impactful regional awareness campaigns across Uganda.

5. Visiting Local UNACC Members
As part of the Mbale exhibition activities, UNACC staff, including Sarah Babirye, Nelson Byanyima, Jackie Namaadi, and Zainab Kakungulu from FAO Uganda, took a trip to Kumi District, about 50 km from Mbale, to visit a briquette production facility.

Run by Mr. Okurut James Albert, this facility turns groundnut husks from the Akibui Farmers Group—a dedicated community initiative that’s been thriving for over 20 years—into carbonized briquettes.
With the capacity to produce up to 5,000 kg daily, Mr. Okurut’s work demonstrates how agricultural waste can be transformed into clean energy solutions that benefit both people and the environment.

This visit reflects UNACC’s commitment to standing by its members who are creating real change in their communities, driving innovation, and championing sustainable clean cooking solutions across Uganda.
